2007 Australian National Band Championships - Brassfeast Bowling

After the hectic weekend that is the Nationals, a small but enthusiastic group ventured out to the AMF Northcote Bowl for an afternoon of fun and competition!

A few were a little worse for wear, due to some heavy partying the night before, but were eager to take part. Participants included members of Hawthorn, Boorondarra, Kew, Preston, Northern Brass and Box Hill.

The competition soon heated up with some serious competition with three trophies up for grabs – Best Male Bowler, Best Female Bowler and one for the Worst Bowler.

Let the fun begin..

There were some amazing moves, including using a ramp to build up speed before hurling the ball at the pins!!  A total of 32 strikes were made over the two games. Chris Lee managed 5 strikes in one game, causing Dave Barker to comment that the pins in his alley just screamed and got out of the way before the ball hit them!

A big thank you to 4barsrest Downunder and Wrights Music (plus a couple of others), for the fantastic prize donations for a raffle run on the day. Prizes included a metronome and satchel, 3 brass band cds, $50 cash and a Brassfeast supporter pack. The draw was done by John Kelly from Box Hill.

The winner announcements were eagerly awaited…. Congratulations to the 4 winners.

Then the time arrived for the trophy presentations.

The best male bowler with the overall score of 268 was Chris Lee.

The best female bowler with a score of  212 was Bianca who was unable to accept her trophy – her fiancé Gordon collected on her behalf.

The hotly contested Worst Bowler for the day was won by Brittany Crabbe (there was quite a few of us going for this one!)

All in the all, the afternoon was a great success, and some are already looking forward to the next competition. Maybe bowling might become a tradition once the Nationals are finished.
