The Bruce Mason Centre

31 bands will compete in this years New Zealand Brass Band Championships, and 279 solo and ensemble entries have been recieved.

This is the first time in the history of the competition for the contest to be held away from Auckland City.  The main venue this year is the Bruce Mason Centre situated in the heart of North Shore, Takapuna about 10km North of the City Centre.  The venue is surrounded by very good restaurants and is only 100 metres from the beach should it be warm enough for a swim!

Already there are street banners everywhere in the central Takapuna area promoting the contest, and radio interviews are in full swing.

Early signs are this contest will be a little beauty!  The organisational processes are humming along efficiently with logistical issues such as maps, food, transport and social events all organised and communicated to bands in detail.

Socially, the weekend will be huge.  One of the local accommodation hotels, The Spencer on Byron is bursting at the seams with 8 bands staying under the same roof!
