22-Aug-200725 & 26 August 2007
Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, High Street, Penrith,
Twenty two brass bands will compete in this years New South Wales Brass Band Championships, four bands less than last year. For the second year in a row, the BANSW have decided to run these Championships in the terrific venue, the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
The Band Association of NSW music selection committee has set test pieces composed by Sydney, NSW-based or Australian composers.
Over the course of the weekend events, bands in each section play the Sacred Item and Test Piece in draw order for their first stage appearance, and then re-appear in reverse draw order to play the Own Choice.
Howard Taylor, Ben Crocker, Bruce Myers and Amanda Casagrande will be on the spot for 4BRDU, providing live coverage and all of the results over the weekend
Adjudicator: Mr Doug Trottman OAM
Doug was born in Footscray (Vic) and is yet another product of the famous Hyde Street School Band.
Following an outstanding career as a soloist on Tenor Horn (including National title seven years in succession and National Champion of Champions three times), Doug has won major Championships with every Band he has trained or conducted since taking up the baton over thirty years ago, and has also conducted bands in Switzerland on his two overseas adventures in 1994 and 1996.
His services as an adjudicator are keenly sought. He has been Chief Adjudicator at the Queensland, N.S.W. (twice), South Australian (three times) and Tasmanian State Championships, and at many regional festivals and contests.
In 2002 Doug adjudicated the “C” Grade section at the National Band Championships.
Doug has received many awards for his contribution to the Brass Band movement. He is a life member of the Footscray-Yarraville City Band and of the Victorian Bands’ League. He has received a Tattersall’s award for Enterprise and Achievement for his work with the Victorian State Youth Brass Band (10 years as Musical Director, 1985-1995), and in June 1992 was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his services to Brass Band music.
