2007 New South Wales Brass Band Championships
Preview: D Grade
Sunday 26 August approx. 11am
Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Penrith
Test: Procession, Hymn & Circus by Graham Howard
This grade is likely to be very closely contested.
It is encouraging to see so many entered in this grade and one thing is for sure - the bands will all have a great attitude and will be there to enjoy themselves.
Interestingly no band in this Grade has been able to contact 4BRDU with info (except for the MD from Brisbane Water Brass who declined to offer any), so lets see what we can dig up. Please - if you feel inclined over the next couple of days to send us some more information please do - downunder@4barsrest.com
Armidale City
Conductor: David Brown
Third here last year and 4th in 2005.
Bankstown City Brass
Conductor: Rae Forrester
Regraded from C Grade to D Grade in the last 12 months.
Brisbane Water Brass
Conductor Jonathan Gatt
MD, Jonathan Gatt, declined to comment.
Came second here last year behind Waratah No 2. With Waratah No 2 now in C Grade, Brisbane Water Brass should be in with a show.
Strong competition will come from a couple of the other bands though.
City of Holroyd
Conductor: Shaun Yow
The only NSW band to head to the Nationals in Victoria this year where they came third in a strong close field of 14 bands.
Fourth here last year but a band definitely on the rise and the ones to beat we feel.
Newcastle PCYC Brass
Conductor: Teena Wallace
A happy lot who didn't compete here last year but had a decent result at this years East Coast competition.
Should do well.
Nowra Town Band
Conductor: Ross Sadler
Seventh here last year.
Lets hope the soprano cornet player has his phoned turned off this year!
Tamworth RSL Brass Band
Conductor: Rebecca Sullivan
No show here last year but a 6th place from a field of 8 in 2005.
4BRDU Dodgy Predictions
1. City of Holroyd
2. Brisbane Water Brass
3. Newcastle PCYC
