Buizingen celebrate Flemish victory

Brass Band Buizingen head for Stavanger on back morale boosting win.

Brass Band Buizingen conducted by Luc Vertommen are celebrating ahead of their appearance at the European Championships, after winning the second running of the Flemish Open Brass Band Championship in Mechelen last Saturday.

Well under way

With an impressive tally of 95.3% the band proved that its preparation for its first appearance at the contest in Stavanger is well under way, especially as they beat reigning European Champion and multiple Belgian champions Brass Band Willebroek into second place.

The band not only won the admiration from the audience but also a splendid new Besson Prestige Euphonium4BR

Deep impression

Buizingen's interpretation of Derek Bourgeois’ 'Concerto Grosso' made a deep impression on the international judges Jan Van der Roost, James Gourlay and Rob Goorhuis, whilst flugel horn player Sébastien Rousseau won the best instrumentalist prize.

The band not only won the admiration from the audience but also a splendid new Besson Prestige Euphonium. Willebroek who came second played the Belgian première of Philip Sparke’s 'Music for Battle Creek' and won the prize for the best bass section, whilst third place went to Festival Brassband who played Philip Wilby’s 'Revelation'.
