Macclesfield Youth aim for bandstand revival

Macclesfield Youth Band need a little bit of help if they are to revive the tradition of bandstand concerts in their local park.

Macclesfield Youth Band

Macclesfield Youth Band hopes to bring a season of Sunday afternoon brass band concerts to their wonderful local bandstand this year — but needs help to make it a musical reality.

Funding

To get the necessary funding the band needs the local community to vote for their project in the Aviva Community Fund Awards — with the aim of reviving a tradition that last occurred in 2010.

The band has been working with the South Park social enterprise which houses the bandstand to help bring something positive to the area.

Huge boost

Their Chairman, Pete Thompson told 4BR: "We believe that there should be more going on in the park, with the pavilion providing facilities and services.

The concert series would be a huge boost for us and the ten thousand people who live within a mile of the park."

Book early

MD Louise Renshaw added: "We know that bands get booked up quite early, and we also know that they appreciate a contribution to their costs, so we'll make the bookings in 2015 offering dates for either a full Sunday afternoon concert or a shared concert, letting bands know that they'll receive a fee and also be able to make bucket collections."

Getting the funding is simply a race to get the most votes, so the band is encouraging everyone in Macclesfield and in the wider music community, who thinks this is a nice idea, to play their part and help make it happen.
