Alder Valley Help the Heroes

Alder Valley Brass honour the real heroes

Alder Valley Brass recently had the honour of leading the Armistice Day parade and church service in their local town of Farnham, Surrey.

Help for Heroes

And with little time to recover, the band then travelled to Alton in Hampshire, where they treated the local audience to an evening of varied music, in order to raise funds for the ‘Help for Heroes’ charity.

Musical Director, Roger Burke, chose a programme with something for all tastes, with featured soloists principal euphonium Brian LeTissier and soprano cornet, Steve Burgess.

The concert ended with a traditional Armistice Day ceremony, including Royal British Legion flag bearers in attendance, whilst the band once again called on the services of their ‘Piper in Residence’ Andy White who, as well as being a fine trombone player, is a brilliant exponent of the bagpipes.

The band joined Andy performing ‘Amazing Grace’ which he followed with a traditional Scottish Lament.

In excess of a thousand pounds was raised during the evening, which also saw Roger Burke acting as auctioneer for a very special bottle of single malt, which sold with a winning bid in excess of one hundred pounds.

Terry Taggart, organiser of the event, told 4BR: "What a great team Alder Valley is in helping to raise money for this worthy cause again."
