Rankings: April update

The latest World of Brass – 4barsrest World Rankings see significant changes following the recent busy contesting period.

Top 10 bands 1. Grimethorpe Colliery 2. Cory 3. Black Dyke 4. Foden's Richardson 5. Brighouse and Rastrick 6. YBS 7. Whitburn 8. Scottish Co-op 9. Brass Band Willebroek 10. Leyland

This busy period has witnessed the Regional Championships in the UK and major events in Australia, USA and Ireland.

In spite of missing out on the top prize at Bradford, Grimethorpe Colliery takes the number one spot for the first time since the rankings were first published, leap-frogging Cory, which slumped to third place in its ‘Area’ event in Swansea.

The next big test for these two ‘giants’ will be the European Championships in Stavanger, where both bands will have an excellent opportunity to extend their advantage over the chasing pack, led by Black Dyke and Foden’s Richardson.

The events taking place since the last update were:

Yorkshire Regional Championships – won by Black Dyke
Scottish Championships – won by Whitburn
North West Regional Championships – won by Foden’s Richardson
Midlands Regional Championships – won by Desford Colliery
Welsh Regional Championships – won by Tredegar
West of England Regional Championships – won by Mount Charles
London & Southern Counties Regionals – won by Redbridge Brass
North of England Regional Championships – won by Reg Vardy
Australian Championships – won by Brisbane Excelsior
North American Championships – won by Fountain City
Irish Brass Band Championships – won by Drogheda
Tameside Open – won by Timperley

The next update will follow the European Championships in May.
