11-Feb-2006
The quartet from the Broxburn and Livingston Band have been celebrating their Scottish National title.

The four members of the Broxburn and Livingston Senior Quartet have been celebrating their recent victory, which was achieved by a massive five point winning margn at Sterling last weekend.

Directed by conductor Mark Bell, the quartet of Alan Edmond, Jacky Dohert, Stuart Gorrange and George Doherty won rich praise from adjudicators Roger Webster and David Thornton after thier performance of Goff Richards 'A Little Swiss Suite' gave them the new Tennant Trophy and title.

'We enjoyed the piece and felt we put in a good performance. To receive such praise from the likes of Roger Webster and David Thornton meant a great deal to us'

~ Alan Edmond

Roger's remarks included the finishing comment of "This is without doubt the best playing (so far) I have heard all weekend", whilst David sated "This has the excitement we've been looking for all day."

The win gave Broxburn the title, whilst on a personal basis it gave stalwart horn player Alan Edmond his third national quartet title in his long career. Alan told 4BR, "This has been a long time coming, but it shows who hard and serious the band as a whole takes the event. We enjoyed the piece and felt we put in a good performance. To receive such praise from the likes of Roger Webster and David Thornton meant a great deal to us."
