Results: Wessex Brass Band Association
7-Dec-2006Bournemouth Concert Brass headed the prize list at the recent Wessex BBA Contest in Weymouth to round off their season in style.
Bournemouth Concert Brass rounded off their year with a win at the recent Wessex Brass Band Association at Weymouth Pavilion on 27th November.
Conducted by David Hayward and performing Gilbert Vinter’s ‘Spectrum’ they took the honours by two clear points from Yeovil Town in second place with Ocean Brass in third. David Hayward took the conductors trophy, with the band’s percussion taking the James Winter Trophy, the bass section taking the Arthur Spencer Trophy and Steve Didcott receiving the Kevin Boulton Plaque as Best Instrumentalist.
For one of the basses (Bill Willis) this win made the day extra special as his composition 'Anniversary Salute' received its world premiere as the test piece for the combined second/third.
Other sections
In the First Section, Otterbourne took the first prize with a clear 2 point winning margin over Shrewton Silver, and with Swindon Brass 4 points further back in third. Otterbourne’s euphonium player took the Tom Gomershall Trophy as well as the Maurice Woods Trophy as Best Cornet.
In the Second Section the victory went to Denmead Brass from Bratton Silver in second and Christchurch and Highcliffe in third.
The Training Section was won by Test Valley Training ahead of Downton, with Wilton and District in third and Hyde Training in fourth.
