Glover rings in the clowns

Euph star Mark Glover helps the local campanologists ring in the clowns...

Glover

Euphonium soloist Mark Glover recently made his final UK performance of the year as guest soloist with the West Midlands Handbell Ringers in Hereford.

Clumsy Clowns

The two pieces Mark performed were entitled,'Dance of The Clumsy Clowns', an original work for euphonium by handbell composer Robin Benton, and a special arrangement of Ketelby's 'Bells Across The Meadow,' which was arranged by Wesley Kendrick.

Robin Benton was in the audience and was impressed with how the bell ringers coped with some incredibly difficult parts, whilst the group's MD Richard Hartnell said how well the euphonium sound works with handbell accompaniment.

The evening also featured a choir plus the Woodgreen High School handbell trio, whilst the money raised was donated to Saint Michael's Hospice.

it was revealed that many years ago Belle Vue in Manchester used to host a handbell ringing contest just as it did a band contest4BR

Handbell history

The history of handbell ringing literally goes hand in hand with that of the brass bands, and it was revealed that many years ago Belle Vue in Manchester used to host a handbell ringing contest just as it did a band contest.

Mark is now completing last minute plans before he flies out to Singapore in January to start his new job teaching brass playing to students.
