World Rankings: December update

Welsh bands Cory and Tredegar pull further ahead at the top of the rankings.

Cory Band

2013’s penultimate update of the World of Brass—4barsrest.com Rankings sees Wales’ two most dominant bands shooting even further ahead of the chasing pack following the Brass in Concert Championship, with Cory’s score now representing an all-time record since these rankings first appeared in 2001.

With four bands in the top 20, eight in the top 50 and 12 in the top 100, Wales now stands alone as the strongest region in the banding world in terms of contest success, an position that has previously only been occupied by Yorkshire and the North West of England.

The other contests taking place since the last update were:

Danish Championships — won by Concord;
Swedish Championships — won by Windcorp;
Scottish Open Championship — won by Co-operative Funeralcare;
Pogson Bray — won by Slaithwaite;
Siddis Brass — won by Stavanger;
US Open Championship — won by Fountain City;
North Wales BBA — won by Deiniolen;
SWBBA Torquay — won by Aldbourne;
Borders Entertainment — won by Tullis Russell;
Kippax Entertainment — won by Uppermill;

The final rankings for 2013 will include the series of Continental National Championships and will be published later this month, with Cory as the world’s number one band for a remarkable seventh year in succession.
