European own choice selections revealed

EBBA announces the list of own choice selections that will be played at the forthcoming European Championships in Perth.

Trophy

EBBA has officially announced the list of own choice works that will be used by the competing bands in both the Championship and Challenge Sections in Perth next weekend.

Terrific variety

In a press release, EBBA President Ulf Rosenberg stated: "Once again we are delighted that the music to be played at the European Championships will provide terrific variety for all audiences, players and adjudicators.

There will be three world premières, but it is equally satisfying that also some of the other music on display first saw the light of day at recent European events."

Contributed

He added: "The European Championships have contributed much to the worldwide brass banding culture since the first contest in 1978, and it is great to see that it has become such a major contributor to the standard repertoire of today."

World premieres

Of great interest will be the bespoke blockbuster selections, which this year includes major compositions from Philip Harper entitled, ‘The Divine Right’, ‘The Triumph of Time’ by Peter Graham and ‘Metamorphosis for Brass Band’ by Jan de Haan.

There is also the first contest performance of James Macmillan’s ‘Canite Tuba’ and the European contest premieres of ‘Goldberg 2012’ by Svein Henrik Giske, and ‘REM-scapes’ by Thomas Doss.

The festival includes the European Soloist Competition, starting on Sunday, with the European Youth Brass Band coming together on Saturday.

The event will also host the first European Youth Brass Band Contest, whilst the special EBBA Conference, chaired by Paul Hindmarsh will examine the role of the composer in the development of the brass band literature."
