Bugles, choirs and premieres help Shrewsbury raise charity cash

There was certainly something for everyone to enjoy at a packed Shrewsbury Band Charity Concert.

Shrewsbury

It was standing room only at the annual Shrewsbury Band Charity Concert held at their local Baptist Church last weekend.

Entertainment

The musical entertainment, directed by Steve Pritchard-Jones included a spectacular display by the Light Infantry Regiment Bugle Veterans ensemble, who joined forces with the band for performances of ‘Mechanized Infantry March’, ‘High on a Hill’ and ‘Evening Hymn & Sunset’.

Premiere

The concert also featured the premiere of a work by band member James Butterworth-Smith, with his composition ‘Tour of Britain’ well received by a knowledgeable audience.

They were also delighted to hear a wonderful rendition of 'Buster Strikes Back’ performed by 12 year old Jessica Herbert in addition to other band items and works performed by Shrewsbury Concert Band and Shropshire Girls Choir.

Ethos

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "The band is at present, a non-contesting and progressive community band that represents the town of Shrewsbury throughout the county and further afield.

Raising funds for charity is part of our ethos and in the three years we have been formed nearly £10,000 has been raised for local good causes.

We are very pleased to have raised over £1000 in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Charity with our latest concert venture."
