Grimethorpe set for Welsh send off

Grimethorpe Colliery Band will be making a welcome return to Wales just before they fly off on their Australian tour.

Grimethorpe

Reigning Brass in Concert champion, Grimethorpe Colliery Band is set to make a welcome return to South Wales ahead of their forthcoming tour to Australia.

Australian tour

The band is set to appear at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre on Saturday June 13th, just a few weeks before they fly to the other side of the world for a demanding 10 date tour.

Entertainment

Speaking to 4BR, Director Music Dr Robert Childs said: "With our tour to Australia on the horizon I wanted to bring the band to Wales to showcase our unique brand of entertainment to the most supportive — and critical — brass band audience in the world!

I know that the response I get here will ensure we are fully prepared for what is to come on the other side of the world."

Delighted

The concert organisers are also delighted that Grimethorpe will be making a long overdue return to Wales. "Grimethorpe offers a unique brand of brass banding that has proved immensely popular and successful over the eyars.

It's been a long held ambition to get the band to come here and for them to be led by Dr Robert Childs is a huge bonus. They will enjoy a wonderful welcome."

Dr Childs has promised that the concert will also feature a sneak preview of many of the works that will be performed in Australia.
