The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) has announced that it will implement a new adjudicator training scheme starting in January 2016.

Forefront

The announcement continues the long term restructuring of the organisation's training and professional development initiatives, aimed at keeping the Association at the forefront of performance assessment.

4BR was informed that the new scheme is designed to allow trainee adjudicators time and support in order to develop a comprehensive skill set alongside experienced mentors.

It is aimed at enabling them to hone their assessment expertise over a period of 2 years, with a minimum of six adjudication assignments in a variety of contest formats.

Criteria

From January the criteria will be available to trainees over the age of 30 with a proven track record as a performer/conductor, and who also has the additional theoretical knowledge to underpin their experience.

All trainees will be allocated an experienced mentor who will act as facilitator and guide.

Concious

AoBBA Secretary David Hirst told 4BR: "The Association is always conscious that players and conductors invest a great deal of time and energy into contest preparation, and they should be, at all times, confident that every adjudicator has the necessary skills to carry out this role to the best of their ability."
