Bradford youngsters enjoy Dyke history trip

Youngsters from Bradford Music Hub have enjoyed a fantastic musical trip to play in the historic Black Dyke bandroom.

Bradford

The Black Dyke Band recently played host to the students of the Bradford Music Hub, as they made a welcome visit to enjoy the rare privilege of rehearsing in the historic Queensbury bandroom.

150 years of memorabilia

Under the baton of former Black Dyke euphonium player Morgan Griffiths, the players sat in the upstairs rehearsal room surrounded by over 150 years of memorabilia and pictures, whilst they played off the same wooden stands that for over a century have held the music for the likes of iconic performers such as Maurice Murphy, Jimmy Shepherd, John Clough and Derek Jackson.

As an added bonus current principal cornet Richard Marshall and solo euphonium Gary Curtin gave some individual and group lessons to the students.

It's been a great to be able to return to the bandroom and lead the young players from Bradford Youth Brass Band in a rehearsal surrounded by so much historyMorgan Griffiths

History

Morgan Griffiths told 4BR: "It's been a great to be able to return to the bandroom and lead the young players from Bradford Youth Brass Band in a rehearsal surrounded by so much history.

It was an amazing experience for everyone and extra special for the ones lucky enough to receive tuition from Richard and Gary. My thanks go to Black Dyke for making it such a special occasion."
