En avant, marche!

Sadler's Wells to feature another band production full of chaos and fun...

Heroes

Sadler's Wells — the artistic venue that plays host to the Rambert Ballet amongst other high profile artistic groups and ensembles, will be featuring another inventive cross-genre musical performance in June when they host 'En avant, marche!' — a moving, but witty production that pays tribute to the camaraderie of a French marching band.

Demotion

Written and produced by Alain Platel, Frank Van Laecke and Steven Prengels, 'En avant, marche!' fuses live music, dance, theatre and opera — inspired by the tradition of the country's music clubs — and is set in the rehearsal room of a brass band where a dying, yet larger-than-life trombonist comes to terms with his lot — and his untimely demotion to the lowly position of cymbal player.

For these Sadler's Wells dates, London concert band The Heroes Band join seven musicians and four performers on stage, playing a mix of marching band classics along with Holst, Verdi, Beethoven, Mahler, Schubert, Strauss and more.

It's Edinburgh Festival show was described by The Guardian as , 'A glorious sense of chaos, with a deep sense of fun'.

Genre-defying

This highly theatrical, genre-defying show is presented by les ballets C de la B director Alain Platel alongside Frank Van Laecke and Steven Prengels, the trio behind the 2012 Olivier Award nominated 'Gardenia'.
