Brass for Africa enjoys wonderful Cheltenham response

The brass band community certainly showed its generosity at Cheltenham and to the brilliant work undertaken by the Brass for Africa charity.

Brass for Africa
Generous donations came from people such as Marcus French from Selkirk Band

The Brass for Africa Charity enjoyed a warm welcome and many wonderful displays of generosity at the recent National Finals at Cheltenham.

Over the two days the charity organisers were met by a steady stream of well wishers, supporters, and donors, all wanting to find out more and to help with their fantastic work.

Wonderful event

Brass for Africa spokesperson Paul Collins told 4BR: "Thanks to the welcome from Kapitol Promotions, it proved to be a wonderful event — and a real opportunity to meet people who have supported us so brilliantly — from mums and dads and young players, to high end sponsors and the media. It was a terrific success."

On the Saturday the Brass for Africa stand was manned by Paul and Stewart Drummond, whilst on the Sunday it was augmented by Brass for Africa Charity Founder James Trott and Brass for Africa Composer in Residence Alan Fernie.

Brilliant time

"Everyone had a brilliant time,"Paul said. "It was so heartening to meet people who offered their support in so many ways such as Marcus French who came to Cheltenham to support his daughter who was playing with Selkirk Band and donated a new cornet (above) and young Harry Porthouse who brought along a baritone from Tredegar Band, and the great traders who all helped us!"

Thanks

He added: "There were so many people who we must thank — right from Philip Morris and Nicola Bland from Kapitol to Tim Jones who took time out of his busy schedule to make sure things ran smoothly for us — not forgetting every single brass band lover and supporter.

We can't thank everyone enough — but please keep in touch with us. What you do makes such a huge difference."
