Holland takes professional lead at Wantage

The former Flowers Band MD has become the new professional conductor at Wantage — with a desire to unlock the full musical potential of an incredible organisation.

Wantage
The Wantage organisation boasts an incredible set up to look after its eight bands

Former Flowers Band Musical Director Paul Holland has accepted the invitation to become the full time professional conductor of Wantage Band with immediate effect.

The London & Southern Counties Area band gained Championship Section status in 2007 and is now hoping to build on its Albert Hall National Finals appearances of 2014 and 2016 under the baton of the experienced Welshman.

Excited

Paul told 4BR that he is also excited by the prospect of working with a superbly run organisation that boasts an incredible eight bands — from starters and big band to junior, training and three successful senior outfits.

He told 4BR: "The work done at Wantage over the years has been simply staggering and the musical potential at all levels is incredible — all backed by a management structure that is focussed and professional.

I will primarily work with the Championship Band, but will also provide individual tuition and look to help at all levels throughout the organisation. The senior band is the tip of an amazing set-up and one that I believe can be developed into a high quality top section contender at the major events."

He added: "The flexible way in which they work also enables me to develop my others musical activities, so this is something which I'm really looking forward to."

I've admired Paul's work with Flowers Band for many years now and I think it's a fantastic opportunity for the whole WSB organisationDeputy Bandmaster, Sam Wyne

Fantastic opportunity

Meanwhile, Deputy Bandmaster, Sam Wyne added: "I've admired Paul's work with Flowers Band for many years now and I think it's a fantastic opportunity for the whole WSB organisation.

It's a very exciting time for us all and I'm sure every level of the Wantage organisation is going to benefit from Paul's involvement, experience and knowledge."

Paul will make his concert debut with Wantage at their annual concert in October.
