Wagner's Terriers to gain extra brass band bite

A fantastic new match up between a brass ensemble of Huddersfield Town fans and their local football club could mean a noisy Yorkshire reception for Spurs.

Huddersfield
The brass ensemble will help create a great celebratory atmosphere for their Premiership team.

David Hoyle, the presenter of 'Yorkshire Brass' BBC Radio Leeds, has teamed up with former Brighouse & Rastrick player and conductor Leigh Baker, to form 'Terrier Brass' — with the specific aim of both supporting as well as celebrating Premiership football team Huddersfield Town at the forthcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Celebrate

It will form part of the 'Celebrate Huddersfield, Celebrate Yorkshire' festivities taking place in the city, with 'Terrier Brass' (it reflects the team's nickname) consisting of fans who just happen to be pretty good brass band musicians in their own right — from the likes of Foden's, Grimethorpe Colliery, Hepworth, Rothwell, Brighouse & Rastrick and Leeds Salvation Army Band amongst others.

The special arrangements put together by Leigh Baker and composer Jonny Bates will include a range of familiar team songs and chants, alongside familiar funky sounds, to help with the club's contribution to the 'Celebrate Yorkshire, Celebrate Huddersfield' theme.

The ensemble (with some its members pictured at the stadium above) will perform on the match-day of Saturday 30th September at the Perrys Fanzone at PPG Canalside from 10.30am before venturing down to the John Smith's Stadium to play outside the new Club Shop from 11.30am up until around 15 minutes before kick-off at 12.30pm.

Wagner

Leigh Baker told 4BR: "Brass Bands and Yorkshire go hand in hand, so it seemed a perfect opportunity to create a 'super band' of Huddersfield Town fans. The manager is called Wagner after all."

He added: "Some of the best bands in the world are based within 15 miles of the stadium, and many of those who play in them are massive 'Terrier' fans, so it's great that they can showcase their talents to supporters. We will be playing a mix of Huddersfield Town songs and chants alongside some funkier favourites."

Loved the idea

Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town Commercial Director Sean Jarvis added: "I was approached by Leigh and David about the possibility of forming a band to play at a Huddersfield Town game and I loved the idea.

With Yorkshire being one of the hotbeds for brass bands it made perfect sense to involve them in our 'Celebrate Huddersfield, Celebrate Yorkshire' festivities at the Spurs game.

He added: "With some of the top brass musicians in the world performing as part of the band, I would encourage all supporters to get themselves down to the Perrys Fanzone at PPG Canalside before the game to enjoy the music and soak up the atmosphere ahead of the match."
