Stavanger to welcome Fountain work

Trumpet star James Fountain will head to Norway this weekend to lead workshops and be a guest soloist with Stavanger Band.

James Fountain
James Fountain will head to Stavanger to led workshops and perform the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Trumpet player James Fountain is to be featured as the guest soloist in a forthcoming concert with Stavanger Band in Norway.

Concerto

James will join the band and conductor Adam Cooke on Sunday 26th November in a programme that will include a transcription of Soviet-Armenian composer Alexander Arutiunian's virtuosic 'Trumpet Concerto', as well as classics from the repertoire such as Eric Ball's 'Kensington Concerto'.

Adam has been making weekly trips from London to Stavanger since his appointment as resident conductor, and told 4BR: "I've worked with James many times at Virtuosi GUS, so when the Arutiunian was mentioned I couldn't think of anyone better. I know that the audience on Sunday is in for a real treat."

Midlands link

The Midlands link to Stavanger has been growing in recent months, with the band recently premiering composer Paul McGhee's Brexit inspired work, 'Fear and Loathing at Stavanger Concert Hall'-at the Siddis entertainment contest.

As well as being the featured soloist, James will also take time out from rehearsals to deliver a masterclass for cornet players from local bands, with a Stavanger spokesperson adding: "We're all looking forward to welcoming James as our guest soloist, and we are sure players and audience members of all ages will be thrilled to learn from him and enjoy his remarkable talents."
