Iles and Mortimer Medal recipients announced

The Worshipful Company of Musicians has announced the names of the recipients of the 2018 Iles Medal and Mortimer Medal.

Iles Medal

The Iles Medal is to be awarded to Trevor Caffull (right), the Managing Director of The Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCOL).

The committed Salvationist was the man behind the establishment of World of Brass, the largest worldwide distributor of brass recordings, as well as World of Sound.

He was also involved in the securing of publishing house, R. Smith & Co. and for being one of the driving forces behind the new era of development of the Brass in Concert Championship.

A director of Black Dyke Band, he is also a member of The International Staff Band and Band Sergeant for Kettering Corps.

Mortimer Medal

The Mortimer Medal is to be presented to Gwyn Evans.

One of the most respected Welsh musicians he has been the inspirational conducting force behind the hugely successful development of both the senior and youth ensembles of the Anglesey based organisation.

Achievements include leading Beaumaris Band to the Championship Section, winning the First Section National Championship, Senior Trophy and All-England International Masters titles along the way.

As a brass tutor with William Matthias Music Service, he led the Gwynedd & Mon County Band to three National Youth Championship titles, as well as Beaumaris Youth Band to the Youth Entertainment Championships of Great Britain title and a Music For Youth National Festival title.

Currently a National Youth Brass Band of Wales Advisory Panel member, he has gained a respected for the commissioning of new works for the medium as well as establishing links to Norwegian school and community bands, which included him leading Beaumaris Youth Band's tour of Stavanger in 2015.

In his capacity as MD of SATCOL, Trevor Caffull has supported major brass band events, live-streaming and recording enterprises, whilst Gwyn Evans is one of the unsung heroes of Welsh youth brass band developmentPhilip Morris

April 18 • Hoover Band Bolton are seeking a 2nd Euphonium, Bb Bass and a kit player to complete our line-up in this friendly but committed band. We rehearse on Tuesdays & Thursdays 2000-2145 in our own bandroom at the Ukrainian Club in Bolton.
