Death of Jean Frost

The death of the popular and respected Jean Frost has been announced.

Martin Mortimer has informed 4BR of the sad loss of Jean Frost, who passed away on Thursday 13th November at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after a brief but severe illness.

Perfect lady

Martin told 4BR: "Jean was an unique character, always the perfect lady, always gentle and caring, with a great sense of humour. After a number of years of involvement in the banding movement Jean was asked by Stanley Wainright to assist with registration at the Granada Band of the Year Contest.

"Her efficiency and organisational skills in this role continued for some time, and led to her officiating at the British Open, an involvement that continued for over 25 years.

Jean was always held in high esteem by my parents during thier time running the British Open and this relationship continued when Karen and I assumed control of the contestMartin Mortimer

British Open

"Jean assisted with officiating at contests at the Free Trade Hall, one year at Bridgewater Hall and then at Symphony Hall. During this time she worked with a number of contest controllers including Stanley Wainright, Phlip Biggs, and more recently Frank Hodges and Derek Atkinson.

High esteem

"Jean was always held in high esteem by my parents during thier time running the British Open and this relationship continued when Karen and I assumed control of the contest.

"Jean 'retired' from her role after the 2002 Open but had attended as our guest ever since with her husband Gerald. We enjoyed their company at Symphony Hall although it was clear that Jean was perhaps not her old self."

Service

A Church Service is to be held at 12.00 on ednesday 26th at St John's Parish Church at Golcar, Huddersfield. A brass ensemble including former members of Dobcross Band will perform at the service conducted by Dr Roy Newsome.

Thoughts

Martin added: "Our thouhts are with our friend Gerald and his family, and Jean will be missed by all those who knew her — a good friend, wonderful wife, mother and grandmother."
