Welsh giants to combine again

Cory and Tredegar will combine forces again in 2015 to help raise funds for the Velindre Cancer Care charity.

Velindre line up

The combined musical forces of Welsh giants Cory and Tredegar will be heard once again following the success of their recent fund raising concert for Velindre Cancer Care in Cardiff in June.

Media coverage

With the event gaining widespread media coverage in both the banding and regional Welsh press, both bands have told 4BR that following discussions with the charity, they hope to repeat the event in 2015.

"It’s been one of the best concerts both bands have been involved in," event organiser John Southcombe told 4BR.

"We gained a wonderful response from sponsors, charity supporters and brass band lovers — many who made the trip from all parts of the UK to enjoy a fabulous occasion.

Now we both want to build on that success and give even greater support to Velindre’s amazing work."

Co-operation

He added: "The co-operation between the two bands also made it a memorable event — from choosing the programme sets to the massed band items, whilst Beverley Humphries (above) was such a great compere and host.

We will be meeting up again in the near future to start the ball rolling again, so watch out for more news."

Inspirational

Tom Crosby, Clinical Director of Velindre Cancer Centre told 4BR that the bands had provided a wonderful way to support the work of the charity. "It was fantastic — and a really inspirational event. The brilliance of the two bands took the breath away. I can’t wait to hear them again."

Contest rivalry

Both MDs are also keen repeat the concert, even though in the next few months they will be renewing contest rivalry on the stages of the British Open, National Championships and Brass in Concert Championships.

"It felt like a historic afternoon at the time, and it would be great to do it again," Philip Harper told 4BR, with Ian Porthouse adding; "It was a great afternoon of music making for an outstanding cause, so to do it again would be fantastic."
