Small Association link for Black Dyke

Black Dyke has announced the appointment of Gareth Small as their first Artist in Association.

The European champion Black Dyke has announced that Gareth Small, Principal Trumpet of the Halle Orchestra, has accepted their invitation to become their 'Artist in Association' for 2016.

Gareth will be working with the band on a number of projects throughout the year as well as being involved with the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band.

World class musician

Black Dyke Music Director Prof Nicholas Childs told 4BR: "Gareth is a world class musician, having been Principal Trumpet of the Halle Orchestra for over 20 years.

His Welsh roots are steeped in the brass band tradition and he has gained a worldwide reputation for his remarkable symphonic trumpet sound and artistic flexibility.

As well as solo performances with Black Dyke Gareth will also lead workshop and masterclasses to benefit the musical development of the cornet players of the band, the Yorkshire Youth Band and the West Yorkshire Music Hub."

First appearance

Gareth's will appear with Black Dyke at The Sage, Gateshead on Sunday 14th February where the partnership will combine for a performance of the Arutiunian 'Trumpet Concerto'.

Honour

Gareth told 4BR: "It's a great honour and privilege to become the Artist in Association with Black Dyke and to work with Prof Nicholas Childs. I'm also looking forward to working with the Yorkshire Youth Band and West Yorkshire Music Hub and performing with the world class talents of Black Dyke."
