AoBBA help inspire next generation of judges at Yorkshire

Five aspiring young judges took part in this year's inspiring 'Young Adjudicators' scheme at the Yorkshire Regional Championships.

The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators have spoken of their delight at once again being involved in the Yorkshire Regional Championship 'Young Adjudicators' scheme.

This year, five enthusiastic candidates aged between 12 and 17, were invited to experience adjudicator's role for the Fourth Section contest.

Aspiring

Before the contest their AoBBA mentor Nicholas Garman, introduced the aspiring adjudicators to the official judges Sandy Smith and Mareika Gray, who offered their insights into the set-work and guidance on which particular aspects of 'St Andrew's Variations' they should listen out for — as outlined in the PAC document found on AoBBA's website ( www.aobba.com).

With a score provided to each candidate by the Yorkshire Regional Committee, they were asked to write their own feedback notes along with their critiques, and all who took part commented on not only how much they had enjoyed the experience but also how much they had learnt from it.

Innovative and inspiring

AoBBA Press Relations Officer, Sarah Groarke-Booth told 4BR: "We were delighted to once again be involved in this innovative and inspiring scheme, which we as an Association hope will expand into more of the regions and contests.

It is important to encourage the younger generation to remain in, and to be an active part of, the brass band movement."
