Brass at the Guild Hall announces adjudicators

The list of judges that will make the all important decisions at the Brass at the Guild contest in Preston next year have been announced.

  The judges have been announced for the 2018 Brass at the Guild contest.

The panel of judges for the 2018 Brass at the Guild contest have been announced. The team will comprise Paul Andrews, John Doyle, Chris King, Helen Varley and Thomas Wyss.

The popular early season event takes place on Sunday 28th January, with the opportunity for competitors to showcase their form on either the Butlins Mineworkers Championship test-pieces or the forthcoming Regional set-works.

British Open Youth

Youth bands are also reminded that entries are now welcome for the British Open Youth contest, which will also be held on the same day. The closing date for both events is 2nd January 2018.

Generous prizes

Supported by R. Banks & Son (Funerals Ltd) through its proprietor and life-long brass band supporter Brian Halliwell, Brass at the Guild is regarded as one of the most important early season events in the UK brass band calendar, thanks to its generous prize fund (podium awards of £400, £200 and £150 in all sections) and excellent facilities.

As a further competitive incentive, the appropriate highest placed band in the Championship Section will gain an invitation to compete at the 2018 British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool.

Those who wish to take part must advise the contest administrator by the entry closing date their choice of work.

The format of the youth competition is a 20-minute own-choice entertainment programme.
