Brass for Africa announces new appointment

The experienced bandsman Rob Stew will become the new Coordinator for UK Brass Band Engagement for the Brass for Africa Charity.

The Brass for Africa Charity has announced that the vastly experienced Rob Stew will be taking up the role of Coordinator for UK Brass Band Engagement.

Supporter

An enthusiastic supporter of the charity through the sterling efforts of his band Derwent Brass, a proud 'Gold Level' supporter themselves, his appointment has been warmly welcomed by Jim Trott, BfA Executive Director.

"Rob has been getting more and more involved with Brass for Africa over the past two years and he brings an energy and enthusiasm for all things brass band related."

He added: "This coupled with Rob's extensive experience and knowledge of the brass band world means that he is an excellent choice to help us reach out and engage brass musicians across the UK and beyond."

Life skills

Brass for Africa provides music education, life skills training and associated benefits to more than 1000 disadvantaged and vulnerable children every week in Uganda and Liberia, and have trained and employed more than thirty young teachers, instrument repair technicians and local support staff.

It is hoped that the appointment will help both raise funds and involve banding enthusiasts to be directly involved in the work of the charity.

Sherborne Town Band

April 24 • Exciting opertunity for a principal cornet player to lead our friendly band. We also would be excited to hear from percussionists with experience in tuned percussion and kit. We are currently in the Championship section and have a busy schedule in 2024.


CLEETHORPES BAND CIO

April 24 • We have lots of cornets and horns but a little thin in the bottom end. Our players are happy to move around to help new players join the band, if you play baritone, euph or bass please give us a try. We rehearse every Sunday and Thursday at 7.30pm

April 23 • MERESIDE BRASS (Rudheath,Northwich) are looking for a FRONT ROW CORNET & a 2nd EUPH to complete our line up. We are a friendly 4th Section band with a sensible calendar of jobs and band social events and enjoy occasional contests. Come and give us a try!
