Talented quartet make it through to BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award Final

Cameron Scott, Sam Dye, Thomas Nielsen and Ross Dunne will compete for the prestigious Radio 2 Young Brass Award at the RNCM in Manchester in April.

BBC Radio 2 has announced the names of the four players who have been selected to go through to the final of this year's Young Brass Award.

Finalists

Euphonium player Cameron Scott (aged 16), trombonist Sam Dye (18), cornetist Thomas Nielsen (16) and tenor horn player Ross Dunne (19) will take part in the final that takes place on Friday 20th April at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (8.00pm). The event will be presented live on BBC Radio 2 by Ken Bruce and Frank Renton.

2017 winner

2017 winner, Isobel Daws, will provide a musical prelude to the evening with a performance of Philip Sparke's 'Capriccio for Trombone and Band' before each finalist will give a 10-minute programme of their choice, accompanied by Foden's Band under conductor Michael Fowles.

They will also give a short concert of their own during the adjudication which will be made by Black Dyke Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs, Helen Vollam, Principal Trombone of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and renowned trumpet player, Andrew Crowley.

April 24 • We have lots of cornets and horns but a little thin in the bottom end. Our players are happy to move around to help new players join the band, if you play baritone, euph or bass please give us a try. We rehearse every Sunday and Thursday at 7.30pm
