Felling Results: Wansbeck Festival

Great turn out of bands and players at the Wansbeck Contest Festival weekend as Felling Band and Philip Tait take the top honours.

Once again the sound of brass was heard loud and clear in the Village of Newbiggin by the sea, Northumberland on the weekend of the 28/29th April.

Over 50 entries

The Wansbeck event attracted over 50 entries performing solo’s duets and small ensembles.

The day included the Annual James Shepherd performance prize, this year with a cash bursary of up to £200.

Under 13 solo for the Gainsborough Cup:

Under 16 Solo for the Hollon Cup:

Under 16 solo for the Northumberland Brass Band Association Cup:
1. Phillip Tait

Under 18 Solo for the Oldgate Trophies:
1. Phillip Tait

The Chantry Cup was won by Phillip Tait for the highest points of the morning.

Under 16 Brass Band for the NBBA Shield:
1. Northumbrian Water Ellington Colliery Brass Academy

The James Shepherd Performance Class:

Open Brass Solo for the Dussart Cup:
1. Victoria Buddin

Sunday 29th April in Newbiggin Sports and Community Centre, 9 bands competed in the Open Brass Band Class for the Irvine Decanter

The weekend was Adjudicated by Brian Buckley who commented on the high standard of competition over the weekend.

Success

The event was again a successful collaboration between the Northumberland Brass Band Association and The Wansbeck Music Festival.

Tony Griffiths Secretary of the Association told 4BR: "The level of competition over the weekend was excellent and the performance by Philip Tait to win the James Shepherd performance class was a highlight of the weekend. Phillip walked away with an outstanding mark taking the full cash bursary of £200."
