World Rankings: July update

No change at the top but Fairey return to the top ten.

Fairey (Geneva) Band makes a dramatic return to the top ten in the latest World of Brass—4barsrest.com Rankings following its victory at the recent English National Brass Band Championships at Preston, the Stockport-based band’s first major win since the 2003 National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.

Top 10 bands

4. Grimethorpe Colliery
5. Eikanger-Bjørsvik
6. Brighouse and Rastrick
7. Tredegar
8. Leyland
9. Rothwell Temperance
10. Fairey (Geneva)

Other upwardly-mobile bands are Reg Vardy and Skelmanthorpe, which both performed well at Preston, and Whitburn and Kingdom Brass, following their appearances in the Final of the West Lothian Festival.

The other ranking contests held since the last update were:

Brass in Ripon — won by North Skelton
French Open — won by Brass Band Rijnmond
Eurobrass — won by Provincial Brass Band Groningen
Queensland Championships — won by Brisbane Brass
Battle of the Bands — won by Dronfield
Bugle Contest — won by Camborne Town

Note that results for the recent New Zealand Championships are not included in this latest rankings release.

The next update will follow September’s British Open Championships, at which 14 of the current top-20 bands will be trying to make an impression on the Defending Champion’s massive lead in the rankings.

The Cobham Band

June 22 • Retirements and moves mean we are looking for Bass & Tenor Trombones and Baritone Horn players. The band has a full programme of bandstand and concert engagements. We also contest twice a year. Rehearsals are in Cobham each Monday at 22.00.


The Corsham Band

June 22 • Having secured a place in the National Finals at Cheltenham in September along with promotion to the 2nd Section from January 2018 the band are now looking to fill a couple of vacancies. One front row and one back row cornet plus an EEb Bass.


Becontree Brass Band

June 22 • Following a relocation initiative to Upminster Essex we are currently seeking:. Principal Cornet & Tutti Cornets,. Solo Horn & 2nd Horn,. Baritone,. Solo Trombone.. We are holding a Summer of Open Rehearsals to welcome people along to try out the band.
