JAGS catch the Big Cat of Bodmin

Jag Mount Charles announce some Xmas signings.

JAGS capture Bodmin Big Cats

The Xmas merry-go-round of players has not be confined to the bandrooms of Yorkshire and Lancashire, with the announcement by the fast rising JAG Mount Charles band that they have captured no less than three new players to strengthen their ranks for the new season.

The most significant is the signing of Tim Whitehead, for many years the very fine flugel horn player of the Bodmin band, and someone who brings a wealth of experience to supplement his undoubted qualities as a soloist and bandsman. He has long been regarded as one of the most consistent flugel players on the circuit and his arrival has seen Peter Jackson, the bands usual flugel horn player move to the cornet ranks.

Joining Tim Whitehead will be his brother, Alastair on Bb bass also from Bodmin and Terry Sleeman who comes in to fill the solo baritone spot from Camborne.

Derek Thomas, the Chairman of the band was very pleased with the signings and said, “We are delighted to welcome the signings to the band. All three bring a wealth of experience of playing in the Championship Section and will undoubtedly strengthen our challenge in 2002”. He also paid tribute to Peter Jackson who has held the flugel horn seat for the last three years and has now moved to the cornet ranks. “Peter is a superb bandsman who recognises that the move will benefit the band. He will strengthen our cornet section immensely”.
