It was a great day for two experienced conductors in the First Section with Raymond Tennant taking Johnstone Silver to victory by one point from old rival Tony Swainson and Bo’ness and Carridan. Johnstone were drawn last of the ten bands and pipped Bo’ness who had set the standard from the number seven draw. Unlucky this year were Clackmannan who headed the field from the dreaded number one spot and so just missed out on the trip to the Finals.

The Second Section saw Livingstone Brass and Tayport Instrumental take the two qualifying spots in a close run contest. Off a number 5 draw, Kivingstone caught the ear of adjudicator John Maines and earned a deserved two point win over Tayport who drew number 8. Missing out this time were Kilmarnock Concert Brass under the direction of Andrew Keachie who came third.

Third Section:

It wasn't until two thirds of the way into the contest that the qualifying bands came to the front in Section Three, with bands 7, 8, 9 and 10 taking the top four spots.

Clydebank Burgh off number 8 and under David Laughland took the first prize, with Tullis Russell Mills and Scott Barker booking their Finals place off number 7. Third place went to Alan Fernie's Buckhaven Methil Miners drawn 9 and fourth to St David's Brass off number 10, under the direction of John Dickson.

The Fourth Section crown in Scotland was settled as soon as the second band had played, when Arbroath Instrumental took a two point lead over Dundee who opened the days proceedings off number 1. No other bands came close to the two early leaders, although Penicuik Silver took third place from the number three draw, but missed out on a trip to the Finals. It was an early days work then for adjudicator Colin Hardy.

The Corsham Band

November 21 • With promotion to the 2nd Section from January 2018 the band are now looking for an experienced Front Row Cornet Player to join our friendly and enthusiastic team.

Chinnor Silver

November 20 • Despite winning the 2nd section at the GBBA contest we still need a Bb BASS to complete our line up. Good but realistic book of concerts and concerts planned.. We have well attended rehearsals on a Wednesday in our own bandroom.

Hucknall & Linby Brass

November 20 • Hucknall and Linby Band - 2nd section- Require a front row cornet player. We rehearse Thursdays 7.30 -9.30 in Hucknall, Nottingham. With great transport links to the city centre and the universities.
