Its CWS — Childs Wins in Scotland

For the second time in less than a week, Nicholas Childs takes an area crown, but this time it's North of the Border with Glasgow.


CWS Glasgow remains as Scotlands premier band after securing yet another commanding victory at the Area Championships with a two point winning margin over traditional rivals Whitburn. It also marked Nicholas Childs second victory in a week on Philip Wilby’s Jazz and saw him also pick up the Walter Hargreaves trophy as the winning conductor.

CWS recovered from a traumatic start to the day when they lost nearly all their percussion on the M8 motorway after the doors of their bus shot open and cymbals, drums and assorted percussion exotica flew out onto the motorways fast lane!

However, by the time they were ready to play off a number five draw, concentration was back on track and with the help of borrowed equipment they gave a definitive account of themselves to a packed audience at Falkirk Town Hall. Nick Childs certainly brought a touch of class to his reading, which bore more than a passing resemblance to his winning account in Bradford a week ago.

Whitburn secured a well deserved second place from the number three draw with a performance that impressed many in the hall with its style and neatness of execution, but it wasn’t enough even with Philip McCann giving the music time and space to take the top prize.

Dalmellington with a rejuvenated Richard Evans took a solid and deserved third place ahead of the improving Kingdom Brass and Thomas Wyss.
