Contests! Contests! Contests!

We have the details of four of the most important up and coming contests this month — Spennymoor, The Mineworkers, Northern Open and Treorchy — just so you know!

November sees one of the busiest months in the brass band contesting calendar, and we have been given details of four important contests that should provide good entertainment and plenty of controversy in the next month.

Without the most important will be the running of the most important Entertainment Contest of the year at Spennymoor. The Brass in Concert Championships will be held at its traditional venue of the Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Sunday 18th November.

Although the field is not possibly as strong as in previous years it will still be a cracker of contest and will feature 11 top bands each hoping to be crowned unofficial Champion Entertainment Brass Band of the UK.

We’ll be having a full length feature article on the contest a bit closer to the date.

The competing bands in order of the pre draw are as follows: Yorkshire Imperial Rothwell: Kirkintilloch: Leyland: The Ransome Band: Ever Ready: Fodens: Todmorden Old: Sellers International: Grimethorpe: Besses O’ th’ Barn: Carlton Main Frickley.

The adjudicators will be Geoff Whitham and Nigel Boddice for the music, with Jim Davies taking the role for the soloist prize.

Mineworkers Championships:

Saturday 24th November also sees the Mineworkers Championships, held in Blackpool.

At present we only have the details of the draw for the Championship Section, which starts at 11.45am on the Saturday. The competing bands hoping to catch the ear of Roy Newsome (who’s in the open) are:
