Miss White Returns as BBC give us some Air

Sheona White officially returns back to the YBS fold and the BBC give us a radio outing.

Sheona White Returns to YBS

Star tenor horn player, Sheona White has officially returned back to the Yorkshire Building Society band following a year in which the demands of a burgeoning solo career meant that she had to take time out from the usual week in week out requirements of playing full time with the European and All England Masters Champions.

Band Manager, Richard Hirst told 4BR that everyone connected with the band was delighted that Sheona was now back with them full time.

“Sheona has had an amazing year in which she has been in constant demand as a soloist and performer and we have been very grateful to her that even with these demands she had been able to play with the band at the major contests of the year. However, Sheona felt that she could not understandably give the total commitment in terms of rehearsals and so we had to try and look for a replacement. Trying to do this for a player of Sheon’s calibre has been impossible and so everyone at YBS is delighted that she is now able to commit herself full time once more to the band.”

Sheona White has had a full diary of solo engagements following the release of her first solo CD and even well into next year she will be performing as soloist country with other bands, including a trip to Amercia in September to play with Peter Roberts and Brass Band Battle Creek.

BBC Feature Brass on Radio 4

We are grateful to many of our readers who have informed us that Radio 4 (the posh radio station for those who only listen to Radio 1) have for the last fortnight been airing a programme about the history and development of the brass band movement on Tuesday afternoon 1.30pm to 2.00pm. (That’s after the news and just before the Archers!) Tune into 198 long wave.

Try and catch the last of the three programme series, which has attempted to cover all our history in hour and a half of airtime next Tuesday. Sorry we didn’t know about it (we tend to be Radio Five Live listeners) but it’s strange that it hasn’t really been advertised either through the Radio Times or through the printed band press.
