All (S)Miles at Brighouse as Dyke get the Euro?

Brighouse announce new euph and more signings as Dyke could have a Euro import.

Steven Miles, who less than a month ago was the Principal Euphonium of the Williams Fairey Band has been installed as the new solo euphonium player at Brighouse and Rastrick following the retirement of Mike Kilroy from the band.

Steven spoke to 4BR and revealed that the move has come at a time when he was starting to feel a bit disillusioned about banding, but has renewed his confidence and appetite to prove himself at the highest level.

“I can’t say how excited I am at the chance of playing at Brighouse in the New Year. The opportunity came up and I really felt it was the right thing to do. I can’t wait to start rehearsals and work with Allan Withington and David Hirst. Brighouse have been bolstered by new signings and I think 2002 could be the year when we regain the top prizes.”

In addition Brighouse will be unveiling a nearly all-new front row of cornet players with the arrival of John Lewis from New Zealand being complimented by the return of Duncan Byers after a period playing north of the border in Scotland to add to the team now being led by newly installed Principal Cornet Nick Payne.

Further more the band will be announcing the arrival of a new Bb bass player in the shape of Mike Norton from Ransomes.

Interesting times ahead for the lads in West Riding then.

Meanwhile the rumour mongers in Yorkshire have told us that it could be a new horn player at Black Dyke with a chap by the name of Peter Maertens in line for a position in the band from Belgium band Kortrijk Brass Band. Don't know anymore than that sorry!
