Dean Morley to join Grimey?

 

The old rumour mill has been working overtime yet again and this time it appears that Grimethorpe have been at the centre of things.

With the new season just about upon us, we hear that they have completed the impressive signing of Dean Morley from Fodens on Bb bass to beef up a section that now includes recent signings from YBS of John Davies on Eb and Gary Proctor on Bb.

Dean Morley has an enviable reputation as a player of the highest class with an amazing technique that many a principal cornet would envy and a sound as big and round as any to be found on the circuit. Added to this he has the type of personality that can only be described as “colourful” which he invariable brings to the concert platform.

His playing credentials are mightily impressive with him winning the Nationals with both Desford and Fodens and being one of the foundation stones of the Fodens bass end that was long regarded as the best in the business. His signing is a major coup for Grimethorpe, taking into account that he will be travelling there from Birmingham.

What this means for the existing bass players at Grimethorpe is uncertain, but 4BR understands that Derek Jackson has already left the band. Watch this space for more though.
