Snell Emigrates!

Find out who's gone to NZ and which ex plod has gone to Grimey

OK—It’s Andrew Snell not Howard Snell, but it was worth a try, eh?

The news is that Andrew Snell, the very well respected bass trombone player with Grimethorpe Collliery Band has decided to take the plunge and head off down under to the “Land of the Long White Cloud” (to totally musically misquote Philip Sparke) and take up the position of Musical Director of the Waitakere City Trusts Brass Band in New Zealand.

He’s going to leave these shores sometime at the end of February to take up his baton on the 1st March.

He takes over from Howard Taylor who left the position of Musical Director in December to move to Australia. Waitakere City have had considerable success in the past few years under his baton, including winning the New Zealand Championship in 1999, being runner up in 2000 and 2001 and being the Entertainment Band of the Year in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Andy will have a heck of a task ahead of him, but we wish him well.

Grimethorpe have signed Toby Bannan, recently he of the bass trombone of Fodens and latterly of the South Yorkshire Police Band. Toby joins Grimey after a short excursion “on the beat” as bass trombone and bandmaster at the Police. Just enough time then for a few arrests over Xmas, and to send a couple of undesirables for a period of “Her Majesty’s Pleasure”! (Only kidding Officer!) Law and Order eh? Not even the Police can hold onto a prime suspect.
