Besses honour “Stalwarts”

Besses O' th' Barn take time to honour two stalwart bandsmen.

On Sunday 8th December in front of a sellout audience at a Xmas Concert at the Radcliffe Civic Suite Besses o' th' Barn Band paid tribute to two individuals who have given outstanding service to the band by appointing them as Honorary Vice Presidents.

Chris Clarkson, who is also known as "Fettler" has had the onerous responsibility over the years of being the bands logistics officer, electrician, driver, carpenter, shifter of percussion and all round mentor. Band Member Dave Aston on presenting Chris with an illuminated certificate stated "This band is lucky to have such a dedicated individual who gives so much and asks nothing in return. I know most bands have individuals like Chris and it is fitting that those who provide real support to bands are so honoured. Chris, even as a non player is one of the best "bandsman" I have ever met."

Jim Murray has played on and off with the band since 1947.Jim has recently retired from front line playing. The inscription announcing his appointment as Honorary Vice President stated " Jim Murray has shown that honour and commitment hold equal importance to talent in a successful brass band". Jim has all these qualities and as Band Chairman Richard Cookson stated "Jim had the talent and dedication when he started playing all those years ago and it has not diminished one bit. Jim's banding career has been an example to both young and old and we are proud that he has accepted this position which has the total support of all the members".

Many thanks to Dave Aston for the information.
