European Champs give out (instead or receive)a few awards for Xmas.

Yorkshire Building Society Band End of Year Awards

Last Friday 12th December the members of Yorkshire Building Society Band gathered for an end of season bash. This was to celebrate 2003, which has been one of the bands most productive years of late.

On top of the band retaining the European Championship in Bergen in May, the band went on to win the British Open Championships in September. These contest wins were followed by the bands CD release “Bourgeois in Brass” being voted CD of the year by Brass Band World Magazine.

At the bands end of year bash it is customary to present two special awards. The player of the year award 2003 went to Sheona White the bands outstanding Tenor Horn player. The Bandsperson of the year award this year went to Helen Robinson Cornet. Helen has been with the band since its Hammonds days and is by a long way the longest serving member of the band.

It can also be confirmed that contrary to misleading printed press statements, Mike Howley Euphonium has not left the band. Mike has just finished a short planned break in order to fulfil commitments at the Royal Northern. The band would like to thank Mike Kilroy for stepping in to fill the vacant euphonium chair.
