Lydmet Lydney have been busy

It seems Lydney have been rushed off their feet.

This year has been extremely busy year for the Band, which has made an average of two public appearances per month during the year. This is good publicity for our sponsors, Federal Mogul Camshafts Ltd. New venues visited this year included the beautiful park setting at Malvern, and the crowded streets of Newent for the 'Onion Fayre'.

Both events produced a really enthusiastic reception from listeners. Like most bands in the Forest of Dean, playing numbers have been up and down this year, and we have had to ask players around the Forest to help us out on occasions. This traffic travels both ways however, and many of our players have in turn been helping other bands. Players are currently required to fill a number of positions. (Any interested musicians out there please see our website for vacancy details). To try and generate some enthusiasm into our own playing, and to stimulate interest in other players in the Forest and beyond, we recently ran an OPEN REHEARSAL.

This is a new venture for us, inviting a professional conductor to take an open rehearsal where all players across the area interested in improving their playing or just playing some different music can get together for a ‘good blow’. We were delighted with the turn out on November 30th, seeing some old faces from the band's history (still good players I might add!), and some new faces to welcome. Thanks to them all for coming along for the afternoon and joining in with fellow enthusiasts. Andrew White MA, BEd(Hons), ADNCB, BBCM, PGCE, took the augmented band through its paces in rehearsal, and entertained us with his enthusiastic style of teaching.

The Band intends to repeat this type of event, and welcomes anyone to come along, either to listen, or play. Watch out for the advertisements next Spring. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters during 2003, and to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year. — Kevin Ford, Chairman.
