Elland Silver give knock-out concert

Yorkshire band to seek medical advice after concert scare

On Saturday Dec 7 2002 Elland Silver Band Organisation presented it's Annual Christmas Concert in a local church. This year the concert was sponsored by our president and was free to all. Needless to say the church was packed. On this occasion we had to borrow a couple of players to fill the ranks. Sadly at the end of the concert when the senior band was returning to the dressing room, one of the borrowed players fell very heavily down the concrete steps and he knocked himself out, he was unconsious for about 1 minute. Luckily for him and the band, we had on hand a GP, Paramedic and Nurse.

On this occasion he was in excellent hands but still had to be take to A & E for a check up. Thankfully he made a good enough recovery to drive home later. It made us realise that we have no quailfied first aider in the band As we have a compliment of about 65 players of all ages we will be looking to send at least two players to a first aid course, we may even look at organising a course ourselves and opening it up to other bands. Until we get players qualified we will definatley be organising first aid cover for any future concert, as we may not be lucky enough to have the GP, Paramedic and nurse with us on another occasion.

Let this be a warning to bands everywhere. If anyone out there would be interested in a first aid course please get in touch ASAP and we will attempt to get the ball rolling.

Also, I make a plea for a Soprano player. We need to get someone signed pretty quickly in time for the Yorkshire Area on March 1st.
