Vintage Langford as CYBB pay tribute

Corwall Youth Brass Band celebrates Langford with Christmas concert

Local BBC Presenter Phillip Hunt introduced the young and re-vitalised CYBB to a large and enthusiastic audience at the Annual “Christmas End of Course Concert” in Truro on 30th December.

Under the expert direction of Guest Conductor, Dr. Roy Newsome the band paid tribute to Composer and Arranger Gordon Langford. Senior Tutor David Pope had previously travelled across the border into Devon, where Gordon now resides, to select the programme and the audience were treated to some vintage Langford fare including “Sinfonietta for Brass Band”, “Prelude and Fugue”, “Pavane” and “New World Fantasy”.

Mr and Mrs Langford attended the concert, and it was evident from Gordon’s reaction on conducting “The Girl I Left Behind Me” and “All Through The Night” that he was enjoying this special tribute.

Many young musicians impressed, in particular Principal Cornet, Jessica Powell, who gave a sensitive rendition of “The Lost Chord”, a super Flugel Horn Section and Trombonist, Darren Hawken who performed Gordon’s “Rhapsody for Trombone”.

Dr. Newsome acknowledged the tremendous part played by a 10 strong team of local and experienced tutors led by David Pope, and this Youth Band is now well on the way, after a difficult year, to regaining its former glory.

Under the Chairmanship of Leonard Adams, Vice-Chairman David Loukes and with Dr Goff Richards as Musical Advisor exciting times are ahead.
