Sunday night out?

Stocksbridge Band Club launch new concert season in January

The 11th January sees the launch of the 2004 series of band concerts presented by Stocksbridge band at the Victory Club in Stocksbridge. The season of Sunday evening concerts has proved very popular over the last couple of years, both with bandsmen and audiences. Not least because of the fact that all the concerts are free—the bands’ fees being subsidised by fund-raising by Stocksbridge band.

The concerts provide a showcase for lower section bands drawn from the South Yorkshire area and are presented in the informal atmosphere the Victory Club concert room. Many bands welcome the opportunity to play to an appreciative and knowledgeable audience and, given the timing of the concerts, some have also used the occasion to give the area test piece a run out. Last year, one Stocksbridge player, having helped out a number of bands throughout the season, held the distinction of having played the area test pieces for all five sections.

The season opens on 11th Jan with the Barnsley Building Society band and runs to the end of April. All concerts begin at 8.00 at the Victory Club, Manchester Rd, Stocksbridge. You’ll need to get there early to get a seat.
