Father of Danish banding dies

Herbert Møller, one of the founder fathers of the European banding movement has died.

The father of the Danish Brass Band movement Herbert Møller died this morning (January 4th). He was 71 years old. He was the man who started the Brass Band movement in Denmark, inspired by the British Brass Bands.

His influence as conductor, teacher and as leader of the Music School in Hjørring was fantastic, and without his important work for Brass Bands, there would be no good Bands in Denmark. Many of his pupils has become leading musicians in Denmark, and all are very sad about the big loss.

With his two bands Concord (Copenhagen) and The Hjørring Brass Band, he won more than 12 National titles, and as founder and conductor of The Danish National Youth Brass Band, he inspired generations of Danish Brass Band Musicians.

Also on the European scene he played an important part, as a member of the EBBA board, and before that he was among the advisers when Boosey and Hawkes were running The European Brass Band Contests. He was often adjudicating at major contests among these The European Championships.

Herbert had many friends all over the world, and wee all mourn over this big loss, and send our best thoughts to his widow Naintong, and his son Kenneth.
