NABBC — Finalists announced

The six finalists will be tested for the top prize in Loughborough on 21st February.




The National Final of the NABBC Young Conductor Competition will be held at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Loughborough on the 21st February 2004. This will be during the NABBC’s Annual Convention.

Invitations have been extended to the winners of the five heats, along with the winner of the Scottish held in 2002. The heat winners were:

Jonathan Corry (Yorkshire)
Alan Duguid (Scotland)
John North (North West England)
Steven Tan (London & South)
Jin Tanaka (Wales & South West England)
Mark Vause (Midlands)

The scenario for the Final will be that the candidate has been called in at the last moment to prepare, and then conduct, a band at a concert. Each candidate will be given twenty minutes to rehearse and prepare the band. Later in the day the candidates will then be required to given a concert performance of their allocated piece.

The pieces, which the candidates must prepare and from which one will be allocated, are as follows:

Resurgam �����Eric Ball
Coventry Variations�����Bramwell Tovey.

Moston & Beswick (Manchester) Band will be the band that the candidates will rehearse and conduct.
