Reg Vardy (Ever Ready) Awards

North East Champs honour their own at awards ceremony.

Sunday the 12th of December saw the Reg Vardy (Ever Ready)bands end of year party and presentation. The event takes place annually and is held in the Highwayman public house in West Pelton, County Durham and the awards were instigated in 1999 and were the brainchild of the bands former MD Dr Nicholas Childs.

After several ales, and the buffet, it was time for the main event of the evening. It was stated that after such a fantastic year of results and performances, the faceless and nameless committee had had an incredibly difficult task in selecting this years winners.

Bandsman of the year 2004 was awarded to Bass Trombone player Gareth Sykes. Player of the year 2004 was awarded to Principal Cornet player Bryan Tait. During his acceptance speech, Bryan was keen to mention all other players in the band who had performed so admirably throughout the year. He reminded us all, that success this last year has been a team effort.

The band would like to take this opportunity to thanks all of their backroom staff, supporters and especially current MD Ray Farr for helping to make 2004 such a successful year.
