Reg Vardy (Ever Ready) Awards

North East Champs honour their own at awards ceremony.


Sunday the 12th of December saw the Reg Vardy (Ever Ready)bands end of year party and presentation. The event takes place annually and is held in the Highwayman public house in West Pelton, County Durham and the awards were instigated in 1999 and were the brainchild of the bands former MD Dr Nicholas Childs.

After several ales, and the buffet, it was time for the main event of the evening. It was stated that after such a fantastic year of results and performances, the faceless and nameless committee had had an incredibly difficult task in selecting this years winners.

Bandsman of the year 2004 was awarded to Bass Trombone player Gareth Sykes. Player of the year 2004 was awarded to Principal Cornet player Bryan Tait. During his acceptance speech, Bryan was keen to mention all other players in the band who had performed so admirably throughout the year. He reminded us all, that success this last year has been a team effort.

The band would like to take this opportunity to thanks all of their backroom staff, supporters and especially current MD Ray Farr for helping to make 2004 such a successful year.

November 23 • 2nd Trombones, look no further. We are looking for a 2nd trombone to join our band. We are an ambitious 3rd section band with a new MD, winning the ODBBA winter contest 2017. Any other instruments, we would be interested to talk, please get in touch.

The Corsham Band

November 23 • With promotion to the 2nd Section from January 2018 the band are now looking to fill a couple of vacancies. One back row cornet (2nd or 3rd) plus an EEb Bass.

Thoresby Colliery Band

November 22 • Sadly due to work commitments we are looking for an experienced Percussionist to join our friendly and progressive Band. The Band has experienced a recent run of good form and is currently enjoying a sensible mix of contests, concerts and recordings.
