The Innovate Skelmanthorpe Band are delighted to confirm the appointment of John Hinckley as their new Musical Director.
John Hinckley’s track record is outstanding. From 1974 to 1992 John had an enviable reputation as the flugel horn player with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band. In the early 1990’s he had five years as Resident Conductor with the successful Marple Band. During this time, this village band established itself as one of the country’s best ensembles and during this period they achieved a remarkable run of success in the British Open Championships of four consecutive 4th places.
This was followed by a seven year period as the Musical Director of the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band. Spectacular progress was made including winning both the Yorkshire Area Championships and the Grand Shield in 1999, followed by top placings at the All England Masters Championships. Recently John has been the principal conductor of the Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band.
